The Message Feature

(Learning and Programming Radio Features)

DotBlue.png The Message Feature allows radio-users to select and transmit CPS-defined data messages to the Fixed Network Equipment (FNE) / dispatcher, as a request or an indication that a significant event has occurred. Examples of messages are “SEND TOW TRUCK”, "LEAVING STATION”, etc. When the dispatcher receives the message, an appropriate response is sent. Upon receipt of this response, the radio provides audible and visual indications that the Message was acknowledged.

A Message transmission makes more efficient use of a channel as compared to a voice transmission.

Messages can be sent from a dispatcher to a portable or mobile unit, or from a portable or mobile unit to a dispatcher. However, a Message may not be sent from a portable or mobile unit to another portable or mobile unit.

Messages are only applicable to display models.

The Message feature is selected on a per (MDC / ASTRO / DVRS type) Conventional System basis with the Message field. The Message Alias List then allows you to define Message functionality for individual Conventional Systems.

The Message feature is selected on a per (Type II type) Trunking System basis with the Message Alias Enable field. The Message Alias Page then allows you to define Message functionality for individual Trunking Systems.

DotRed.png   This feature applies only when the Trunking Personality that DotYellow.png references this Trunking System has its Message Enable field enabled.

Once defined, the radio-user can access the Message feature with a DotRed.png Message button-press, a DotRed.png Direct Message button-press, or a DotRed.png Message menu-selection.
